At 18, I left the small town of Princeville, Illinois (pop. 1,700) to go to college in Fort Scott, Kansas on a rodeo scholarship. When I took off I had my horse trailer loaded down with most of my "worldly" possessions knowing I would probably only return home for visits.
Several years and several small rural Kansas towns later, I graduated Kansas State University with a Bachelors in Agribusiness and settled down in Greenwood County where I am the Economic Development Director for Greenwood County. I have a beautiful baby girl who is growing up fast and a loving husband that I enjoy working along side; whether it is tending grass cattle, doctoring sick or making improvements to our 15 acre slice of heaven nestled at the foot of Duke Hill outside of Reece.

So it is official...the Rural Opportunity Zones will become a reality with the coming of the State's new year. I got to thinking..."this would have been nice when I was graduating" which got me thinking...how would I have known about this at the time so I could take advantage of the program?
