The great Mailbox Hunt.

The great Mailbox Hunt.
I grew up rural and knew that’s where I wanted to raise my family.
My family and I recently relocated to a small town (pop. 200) from a much larger city. We had our mail forwarded to the new address, but were not receiving any mail. I called the post office and asked if we needed to set up a post office box or if it was delivered. I was told it was delivered. I assumed that meant that it would arrive in the mailbox attached to our house. We waited a week without receiving anything and finally asked our neighbors if they received mail at their house or if they knew what the previous owner had done in terms of their mail. They told us our mail is delivered over on 2nd street (a few blocks from the post office and even farther from our house). They claimed there were a group of boxes and the previous owner had their mail delivered there.
So we went for a stroll in our quaint little town that evening and low and behold there were mailboxes on second street, but to my surprise it was not a cluster box similar to what’s found at apartment complexes. Instead, there were four individual, unmarked mail boxes in someone’s yard on 2nd street.
We were worried about opening another resident’s mailbox, but we just had to find out. One was opened and clearly empty and one had an address on it. We opened the last one to find a mailbox packed full of our mail! The post master was correct it was delivered – but to another address!
On the walk back home we ran into the City Clerk in her golf cart, so we shared our funny experience with her. She told us, “Oh! I’m sorry, I could have told you that!”. The mailboxes were apparently put in that location for convenience – I guess it was silly for us to not figure it out sooner! We are wondering which resident of our new town won the bet for when the “new people” found their mail!
